Description.
Testitis is defined as inflammation of one or both of the testes, also known as orchitis. This condition is most commonly associated with the mumps virus. Studies have shown that at least one-third of males who contract mumps after puberty develop testitis. Other causes of testitis may include bacterial infections from sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea or Chlamydia. Symptoms of testitis may include testicular swelling on one or both sides, pain, tenderness, nausea, fever, discharge from the penis, and blood in the ejaculate.
Causes.
Testitis can be caused by bacteria or viral infections, and tumors.
Complications.
Complications of testitis may include testicular atrophy, scrotal abscess or infertility.
