Description.

Hypotension, low blood pressure, consists of a reading of 90/60 or less (with normal blood pressure levels reading 120/80). Low blood pressure may cause symptoms of dizziness, fainting, blurred vision, and fatigue—and can be an indicator for serious underlying conditions such as heart, endocrine or neurological disorders.

Causes

Hypotension can be caused by conditions such as pregnancy, heart problems, endocrine problems, loss of blood, dehydration, septicemia, anaphylaxis, lack of nutrients such as B-12 and folate, and some medications.

Complications.

A sudden drop in blood pressure can be dangerous and lead to dizziness and fainting due to a lack of blood supply to the brain. Reduced blood pressure due to loss of blood can be life threatening.
